Group says dinosaur tracks on Colo. mountain eroding; proposal to protect them rejected

MORRISON, Colo. (AP) — A group says dinosaur tracks discovered on a Colorado mountain are eroding and could be gone within 15 years, but plans to protect the site are at a standstill.

Friends of Dinosaur Ridge had proposed building a canopy over the tracks in Morrison to protect them from weather, but Jefferson County officials rejected the idea because they don't want structures that could hinder the view of the Front Range mountain backdrop.

Friends of Dinosaur Ridge is the nonprofit group that manages the site. Jefferson County owns the land.

The tracks were discovered in 1937 during road construction. They show about 300 individual tracks from three types of dinosaurs that roamed the Front Range when it was once a beach.

Thieves rob Lakewood father at gunpoint, steal car full of Christmas presents

LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- Shane braved Black Friday shopping. With four kids aged seven weeks to six years old, he had plenty to buy.

"Black Friday was my twin's birthday and then my wife's birthday is December 19. So I bought the presents and then I bought my entire family's Christmas presents," he said.

His car was packed with presents and he was feeling pretty satisfied with his efforts as he pulled into the driveway of his Lakewood home.

That's when Shane said another vehicle pulled up, blocked him in and two teenagers got out and confronted him.

One had a shotgun and the other had a handgun.

"They stuck the handgun and shotgun in my face and said give me everything and walk away or we're gonna kill you," he said.

They stole his car, complete with car seats and stroller, his wallet and cash, cell phone and every single present for his family's Christmas.

SUV crashes into light pole, kills driver

LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- The driver of an SUV was killed Monday when his vehicle went out of control and crashed into a light pole in Lakewood.

Police investigators say 37-year-old Alamo Onak of Littleton was killed in the crash at 3:40 a.m. at S. Kipling Pkwy. and W. Girton Dr. They say his 2001 Chevrolet Blazer was southbound on Kipling when it hit the raised crosswalk median on the northwest corner.

The SUV then went across the intersection and crashed head-on into a light pole.

Onak was the only person in the Blazer. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Detectives will wait for toxicology reports to determine if drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.
