Guarantee: 30 credits with 2.7 GPA gets you into CU

DENVER -- Colorado's community college students who earn 30 credit hours and achieve at least a 2.7 grade-point average are now guaranteed admission to arts and sciences programs at the University of Colorado's campuses.

Higher education leaders revealed details Tuesday about the new "CU Guaranteed" program, which is effective beginning in the spring semester of 2011.

DENVER -- Metro Denver doctors will be able to provide health care for thousands more children along the Front Range, thanks to a new Ronald McDonald Care mobile medical clinic.

Rocky Mountain Youth Clinics will unveil its third mobile unit at Smiley Middle School in Denver on Wednesday, Nov. 17. 

The mobile medical unit is a fully equipped clinic that will visit dozens of schools in Denver and Aurora, delivering everything from flu shots to physicals and special medical and dental treatments for children who might not otherwise be able to receive medical care.

Thanksgiving travel expected to be up

DENVER -- Thanksgiving travel is expected to increase this year for the first time since the peak of the recession, according to AAA Colorado.

AAA Colorado is projecting the number of Thanksgiving holiday travelers in the mountain states (Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho, Montana) will increase 10.7 percent from 2009, with approximately 3.09 million travelers taking a trip at least 50 miles away from home.

Lingering questions leave pot patients in limbo

DENVER -- Regulators debating about what it means for a doctor to be "in good standing" are leaving potential medical marijuana patients in limbo. 

Around 1,300 people are waiting for their Colorado medical marijuana cards because of a dispute over which doctors can recommend pot.  Regulators are debating how to interpret a law requiring doctors to be "in good standing."

Thousands of applicants were rejected because they were recommended by doctors with restrictions or conditions on their licenses.

Prison for robbery and assault duo

A 38-year-old Edgewater man was sentenced today to 12 years in prison for his role in a robbery and aggravated assault of a bar owner January, 2010. 

Alfonzo Anastacio Portugal, 38, and his girlfriend, Pamela Rene Tolbert, 34, were drinking at the Cordial Lounge at 15th and Pierce, in Lakewood on January 15.  At closing time Tolbert came up behind the owner of the bar as he was counting money. Tolbert came up from behind him and attacked him.
