DENVER – A badly decomposed body was found in the Platte River by a construction worker near alameda Avenue and Santa Fe Drive Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters have recovered the body, said Lt. Phil Champagne of the Denver Fire Department. The body is so badly decomposed that it’s hard to identify the gender of the person, he said.

Standoff with burglary suspect at Denver hotel ends peacefully

DENVER — A burglary suspect barricaded himself inside a hotel in Denver’s Highlands neighborhood Tuesday night.

A witness told FOX31 Denver the man took a hostage, but Denver police said they had no interaction without anyone inside the room before the standoff ended around 11:15 p.m. Police used CS gas to force the suspect out of the room, tased him, then arrested them.

Police spokesman Det. John White said the man is wanted in connection with a robbery in Englewood. He barricaded himself inside the Budget Host Inn at West 27th Avenue and Wyandot Street at approximately 6:30 p.m., White said.

Puppy stolen from Denver man’s car

DENVER — A puppy was stolen from a Denver woman’s car Sunday evening and now they are asking for the public’s help in finding it.

Tyrel Desmarais told FOX31 Denver the four-month-old puppy ‘Diesel’ was taken while she was visiting a bar on West Mississippi Avenue.

“He’s a playful little guy. He loves just to get up and go outside on walks,” Desmarais said.

For Desmarais and Sarah Gilliland, Diesel is family.

“He’s just rowdy and happy and gets along with cats. He’s my baby,” Gilliland said.

Desmarais said Diesel likes riding in the car and they took him along Sunday when they drove to Romes — a neighborhood bar. They left Diesel in the car knowing it would be a quick stop.

About 15 minutes later, a friend noticed the puppy was missing. Desmarais said there is no way the Boxer got out of the car himself.

“I’m very worried,” Gilliland said. “It’s hard to think what happened to him and what’s going to happen to him.”

Fire at Bangladesh factory kills 117

Dhaka, Bangladesh (CNN) — A fire ripped through a clothing factory near the Bangladesh capital of Dhaka, killing at least 117 people and sending workers jumping out of the multistory building.

At least 200 people were injured as they rushed to get out of the factory in Ashulia, police said.

Firefighters battled to contain the raging blaze that started Saturday night on the first floor of the nine-story building and spread to other floors, leaving hundreds of workers, mostly women, trapped.

Officials said some 2,000 people were working in the factory as the fire began, but it was unclear how many had been rescued.

The fire department said rescue operations have been very difficult because the factory was packed with fabrics, yarn and cotton, the fire department said. It said the death toll might rise because firefighters could not enter some floors of the building.

Champion boxer Hector ‘Macho’ Camacho dies after shooting

(CNN) — Famed boxer Hector Camacho died after he was taken off life support early Saturday, a hospital spokeswoman in Puerto Rico told CNN.

A passing gunman on Tuesday shot Camacho, who was in a car in front of a bar in his hometown of Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

He was declared clinically brain dead on Thursday and placed on life support.

Camacho, 50, suffered a heart attack and had been taken off life support, said Wilmelis Marquez, spokeswoman for the Rio Piedras Medical Center.

He was pronounced dead at 1:45 a.m., she said.

She said his organs were not healthy enough to be donated.

Camacho, a former lightweight and junior lightweight champion, was in the passenger seat of the car, police said. The driver was shot twice and killed, they said.
