Fire at Bangladesh factory kills 117

Dhaka, Bangladesh (CNN) — A fire ripped through a clothing factory near the Bangladesh capital of Dhaka, killing at least 117 people and sending workers jumping out of the multistory building.

At least 200 people were injured as they rushed to get out of the factory in Ashulia, police said.

Firefighters battled to contain the raging blaze that started Saturday night on the first floor of the nine-story building and spread to other floors, leaving hundreds of workers, mostly women, trapped.

Officials said some 2,000 people were working in the factory as the fire began, but it was unclear how many had been rescued.

The fire department said rescue operations have been very difficult because the factory was packed with fabrics, yarn and cotton, the fire department said. It said the death toll might rise because firefighters could not enter some floors of the building.

Champion boxer Hector ‘Macho’ Camacho dies after shooting

(CNN) — Famed boxer Hector Camacho died after he was taken off life support early Saturday, a hospital spokeswoman in Puerto Rico told CNN.

A passing gunman on Tuesday shot Camacho, who was in a car in front of a bar in his hometown of Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

He was declared clinically brain dead on Thursday and placed on life support.

Camacho, 50, suffered a heart attack and had been taken off life support, said Wilmelis Marquez, spokeswoman for the Rio Piedras Medical Center.

He was pronounced dead at 1:45 a.m., she said.

She said his organs were not healthy enough to be donated.

Camacho, a former lightweight and junior lightweight champion, was in the passenger seat of the car, police said. The driver was shot twice and killed, they said.

Liquefied Natural Gas Trucks Save County Dollars

Liquefied Natural Gas Trucks Save County Dollars

WELD COUNTY, CO – As part of its Smart Energy Plan, Weld County is in the process of converting its government fleet vehicles to natural gas vehicles – both Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). On Wednesday, three of the county’s four LNG trucks were on hand at the County Administration Building.

“We are excited about the conversion,” said Commissioner Barbara Kirkmeyer. “Natural gas vehicles are more efficient and require less maintenance which equates to lower costs for the county.”

The county received its first LNG truck in July 2012 and has already realized a 22% reduction in fuel costs which will equate to approximately $25,000 in fuel savings per year per truck. “Over the life of the truck, we are expecting to save an estimated $100,000 on fuel alone – that’s per truck,” said Jay McDonald, Division Supervisor for Weld County’s Department of Public Works.

Jury hung on murder charge against man in death of his estranged wife

GOLDEN, Colo. — A jury convicted a man on two counts Monday related to the death of his estranged wife. But the jury was hung on the murder charge against Daniel DeWild.

The jury did convict the 40-year-old DeWild of conspiracy to commit murder and accessory to murder. His wife, Heather disappeared about one week before the couple’s final divorce hearing in July 2003.

Her body was found more than a month later in a roadside grave in Golden. The mother of two was 30 years old when she was killed.

Daniel’s twin brother, David, pleaded guilty earlier this year to conspiracy to commit murder in his sister-in-law’s death.

Accessory charges in the case against David’s wife, Mary DeWild, were dropped last month.

Denver CEO worries how new pot rules will affect hiring

DENVER — Small amounts of marijuana will soon be legal in Colorado, but nearly two weeks after the election, some business owners worry that Amendment 64 could make it harder for them to make money and help their companies grow.

“We supply the federal government, state government, U.S. EPA and U.S. Geological Survey with equipment and we’re required to have a drug-free workplace so it sends a mixed message to our employees on what’s OK and what’s not OK,” said Jeff Popiel, President and CEO of Geotech, a Denver environmental business. “My fear with the legislation is more and more people will be doing drugs so we have fewer and fewer people that are able to come here to work, so the talent pool gets reduced.”
