Denver rescue mission needs 18,000 turkeys

DENVER — The Denver Rescue Mission is asking for turkey donations for their Great Thanksgiving Banquet.

According to a spokesman, the Mission has only 270 turkeys on hand. They have requests for more than 18,000 turkeys from 103 local agencies including churches, schools and nonprofits, said Alexxa Gagner.

“The Mission will feed thousands of meals this holiday season,” Brad Meuli, President/CEO of Denver Rescue Mission said. “We don’t do this alone, we are able to do this with our community’s support.”

The turkeys are served at the Great Thanksgiving Banquet on November 21st and given to families in 1,250 food boxes throughout the Metro area.

The Mission is asking for donations of frozen turkeys weighing 12 pounds or more. Donations can be brought to the Lawrence Street shelter at the corner of Park Avenue and Lawrence Street.

FOX31 confronts dentists with a dark side

DENVER — A Denver dentist accused of re-using dirty needles on 8,000 patients and practicing while high on prescription drugs may not be the only dentist with a dark side operating in Colorado.

A review of public complaints against Metro Denver dentists has uncovered a disturbing trend whereby dentists with suspended licenses or questionable backgrounds are still practicing medicine, and the state is doing little to stop them, a FOX31 investigation has found.

The complaints list includes Dr. Stephen Stein, who made headlines in Colorado when authorities discovered he had been reusing needles — potentially exposing some 8,000 patients.

Sergio: One Nation, Two Choices

FOX31 Denver has complete election night coverage on the air and online featuring political perspectives and analysis from across the spectrum. On Monday, former GOP lawmaker Rob Witwer and former Colorado Democratic Party Chairwoman Pat Waak offered a preview of what to watch for tonight.

Here, KBNO’s Fernando Sergio offers his thoughts on the democratic process that plays out every four years.

DENVER — Every four years Americans across this great nation exercise the incredible privilege of electing a President. It is one of the cornerstones of our democracy, the greatest in the world, that sometimes creates an atmosphere of confusion with the barrage of political advertisements and talking points that voters are subjected to.

Leopard suspected of eating 15 people in Nepal

Kathmandu, Nepal (CNN) — A ferocious leopard may have killed 15 people in Nepal in a 15-month span, its latest victim a 4-year-old boy that the creature dragged away into the jungle to eat.

The head of boy was found in the forest a kilometer from his home Saturday morning, said Kamal Prasad Kharel, the police chief of the Baitadi district, an area about 600 kilometers (373 miles) west of Kathmandu.

The grisly discovery, which came after teams of people searched for the child, marks the 15th victim in the past 15 months in that remote district in western Nepal.

The police chief suspects that a single man-eating leopard is responsible for the deaths. If not, there are at most two of the man-eating creatures around, he believes.
