Quick thinking teacher properly disposes of rabid bat

A rabid bat was discovered at Drake Middle School in Arvada, Monday, August 15, 2011. The bat was discovered in an empty classroom by a teacher preparing for the start of school. The teacher, following proper procedure, immediately closed the door and went to inform the onsite school resource officer, who then called Animal Control. The bat later tested positive for rabies making it the fifth in the county this season.

Comcast offers subsidized Internet for children in poverty

Comcast is offering low-cost Internet access for children living in poverty who qualify for free school lunches.

Spokeswoman Cindy Parsons says the company wants to help families keep up with their school work.

5,000 students expected at school supply distribution

The numbers are staggering -last year 12,000 Jeffco students lived in poverty, over 2,800 experienced homelessness and 25,000 were on free/reduced lunch programs.

Jefferson Co. shows considerable gains in CSAP results

The 2010-11 Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP) achievement results show the district is outperforming the state in all grade levels and content areas (reading, writing, math and science). Jeffco scores show the district is:
